Scales
Introducing "Scales," a beautifully designed shawl that has captivated my family’s imagination with its unique pattern—some say it resembles mermaid scales, others see reptile scales, while I insist it evokes the beauty of beach glass. Regardless of the interpretation, one thing is certain: "Scales" is a stunning asymmetric mock cable triangle shawl perfect for knitters of all skill levels. This easy-to-follow and easily memorizable pattern makes it an ideal choice for showcasing variegated yarns, allowing for a vibrant and eye-catching finished piece.
For this project, you will need 560 yards (512 meters) of DK weight yarn to create a luxurious and cozy shawl that will keep you warm during cooler months. A set of US 7 (4.5mm) needles with a 32” (80cm) cable or longer is required to ensure comfortable knitting and optimal stitch definition.
Key knitting notions include a tapestry needle for weaving in ends once your project is complete. To achieve the best results, it's important to check your gauge, which should measure 16 stitches by 32 rows over 4 inches (10 cm) in a 2x2 ribbing pattern. Remember, you can always adjust your needle size if necessary to obtain the correct gauge.
The finished dimensions of the "Scales" shawl measure approximately 50” wide by 24” deep (127 cm wide by 61 cm deep), but the pattern is easily customizable to suit your preferences, allowing you to create a truly one-of-a-kind accessory.
