Scheelite Mitts
Discover the beauty of the Scheelite Mitts, an exquisite knitting pattern inspired by my Scheelite hat, which I designed during a memorable spring spent rock climbing in the breathtaking Eastern Sierras near Scheelite Creek. Scheelite, a major ore of tungsten and the largest source of tungsten in the US, serves as the perfect backdrop for this unique design. While Scheelite is inherently soft and not typically used in jewelry, its inspiration shines through in these mitts.
These mitts stand out due to their innovative construction: they are knitted sideways, featuring a stylish i-cord edge along the wrist for a polished finish. Additionally, you have the option to choose between two distinctive connection techniques—select a simple lace pattern or a sophisticated cable design to suit your personal style.
Perfect for various hand sizes, the palm circumference options include: 7”/8”/9” [18cm/20.5cm/23cm]. Whether you knit them for yourself or as a thoughtful gift, these mitts are a delightful accessory for any season.
The sample shown showcases a striking dual-color effect achieved using remnants from my yarn stash. For this project, I utilized 40g of Six and Seven Fiber “Wheat” (100% merino, 220 yards; 202 meters per 100g) paired with “The Burrow,” and 40g of Cloudborn Fibers “Highland Worsted” (100% wool, 220 yards; 202 meters per 100g) in “Espresso Heather.” This pattern not only allows for creativity with color but also offers a fulfilling knitting experience for enthusiasts of all skill levels.
Whether you're a seasoned knitter or just starting out, the Scheelite Mitts pattern is an excellent addition to your collection. Embrace your creativity and keep your hands warm in style with this unique design that captures the essence of nature and craftsmanship.
