Selye
Introducing the exquisite Selye Shawl, a beautifully crafted knitting pattern designed especially for the wedding day of my photographer's lovely daughter. This stunning shawl features intricate lily of the valley and pine cone motifs, drawing inspiration from her birth flower and the state tree, creating a meaningful keepsake. The name "Selye" is derived from Quenya (Elvish), meaning "daughter," adding a touch of fantasy to this heartfelt piece.
The finished dimensions of the Selye Shawl are 15” x 56” once it has been wet blocked, making it a versatile accessory that can easily be modified to suit personal preferences. Whether you’re looking to create a statement piece or a delicate wrap, this shawl offers the perfect canvas for your creativity.
For this project, we recommend using Dragonfly Fibers Squishy Lace yarn, composed of 100% Superwash Merino wool. With an impressive yardage of 870 yards per 113 grams, the sample shawl was beautifully knit in the rich Wine Country colorway, utilizing approximately 600 yards of yarn.
To achieve the best results, you’ll need a 24” or longer circular needle, size 5 US (3.75mm) or a size that will help you reach the desired gauge. Speaking of gauge, aim for 18 stitches and 22 rows in wet-blocked stockinette stitch. Note that while achieving gauge is not critical for this item, it will influence the overall yardage and drape of your shawl.
In terms of additional materials, you'll require 150 size 6/0 seed beads—each repeat of the beautiful beaded lace uses 30 beads, and the sample showcases 5 repeats. Ensure you're equipped with a 1.00mm crochet hook or a beading tool to expertly place the beads. Don’t forget a darning needle for grafting and weaving in those pesky ends to finish your shawl flawlessly.
Perfect for various occasions, from weddings to special events, the Selye Shawl knitting pattern not only provides a creative outlet but also results in a cherished heirloom that can be passed down through generations. Start your journey in crafting this unique and beautiful shawl today!
