Serendipity Throwover
At some point—honestly, I still can't pinpoint exactly when or how!—eight lovely 50g balls of soft baby alpaca DK weight yarn mysteriously materialized in my knitting stash. Inspired by this yarn find, I decided to create a unique and stylish poncho that would make the most of my yarn supply. The design features two knitted rectangles seamlessly joined together at the shoulders, which allows for a flattering fit and ease of wear.
To elevate the design, I incorporated a beautiful lace and cables edging chart, paired with an abundance of luxurious moss stitch throughout the body. For added texture and style, I completed the piece with garter stitch for both the top and bottom edgings. The result? A fantastic, flowy layering piece that's perfect for any season!
It’s important to note that the bust circumferences provided for the wearer of this poncho are merely approximations and offer incredible flexibility, thanks to the poncho's accommodating structure. Rather, the wingspan of the poncho should be your primary focus when determining the right size for your own creation.
Gauge for Success
If you want your poncho to turn out just right, pay close attention to the gauge:
—Stitch gauge for the moss stitch: 18 stitches to 4" after blocking; the 42-stitch edge pattern measures 8.5" wide after blocking.
—Row gauge for both the moss stitch and edging patterns: 23 rows to 4" after blocking.
Yardage Requirements
To complete this beautiful poncho, you will need approximately 1040 [1110, 1170, 1215, 1230], [1290, 1305, 1380, 1380] yards of baby alpaca DK weight yarn. Be sure to check your yarn stash, as this poncho is a fantastic way to use up your leftover yarn while creating a stunning piece.
