The inspiration for this design came from my then 4-year-old child's playful request: "Mom, can you knit me a shark?" Who could possibly resist such an adorable design brief?
This project is largely knitted in the round as a single piece, with only a few sections worked flat, making the process enjoyable and seamless. Expect to work with a range of techniques, including a variety of picked-up stitches, increases, and decreases. The unique teeth of this shark are designed using short row shaping, which is fully explained in the pattern for your ease of understanding.
SKILLS REQUIRED: To successfully complete this project, you will need to be comfortable with Garter (knit) Stitch, Stockinette Stitch, Provisional Cast On, and knitting in the round on double-pointed needles (dpns). Familiarity with M1L (make one left) & M1R (make one right), SSK (slip, slip, knit) & K2tog (knit two together) techniques will also be essential. Additionally, you should be adept at sewing pieces together using the running stitch, picking up stitches, and mastering short row shaping (which is detailed in our pattern).
MATERIALS REQUIRED: Gather your supplies to create this whimsical knitted shark! You will need 70 yards of Gray Worsted Weight yarn, 10 yards of Pink Worsted Weight yarn, and just 5 yards of Sport Weight yarn for crafting the teeth. A set of US size 6 (4mm) dpns and US size 1 (2.25mm) dpns will be required, alongside stitch holders, stitch markers, a tapestry needle, and a scrap of black yarn for the eyes.
