Short Turn
This unique knitting design is inspired by the Toronto Transit Commission (TTC), Toronto’s beloved and sometimes criticized transit system. Whether you love it or find it frustrating, TTC riders can all relate to the experience of navigating the city's well-known streetcar lines. One common experience is the concept of the "Short Turn" – when streetcars divert from their planned route, creating unexpected detours that may require changing vehicles or lines. Our cable pattern pays homage to these twists and turns, mirroring the streetcar routes that crisscross the city and reflecting the unpredictable nature of urban travel.
The design is based on a 2 x 2 ribbing that meanders off the traditional path, creating interesting detours and crossings resembling the streets and tracks of Toronto. These unexpected changes capture the essence of a spirited journey through the city, embodying both the anticipated and unforeseen aspects of riding the TTC. The incorporation of a plain section worked entirely in reverse stockinette serves to highlight the significant areas of Toronto that are not well-serviced by the TTC, while also conveniently addressing sizing issues within the pattern.
As always, this knitting pattern includes comprehensive instructions suitable for any needle configuration you prefer, whether that be Double Pointed Needles (DPNs), magic loop, two circulars, Flexiflips, or any other method you choose. Dive into this enchanting project that not only brings together elements of Toronto’s vibrant transit system but also enriches your knitting experience!
