Sir Duke Shawl
When preparing for a recent wedding, I realized that I lacked an elegant shawl suitable for such a special occasion. While I have plenty of wooly, everyday shawls, none were graceful or fancy enough for a celebration. This moment inspired the creation of my latest design: the Sir Duke Shawl. Named after my all-time favorite song by Stevie Wonder, this shawl is sure to get you dancing and feeling joyful.
The Sir Duke Shawl is knitted from the top down in a sophisticated stockinette stitch, transitioning into a beautiful lace border that adds an exquisite touch. Its subtle crescent shape ensures that it comfortably hugs your shoulders, preventing it from slipping off—a perfect blend of style and practicality for weddings or formal events.
Key Features:
Size: 60 inches wide along the top edge and 22 inches deep, making it a versatile accessory that can easily complement various outfits.
Yarn: For this luxurious shawl, I chose The Fibre Co. Acadia, a blend of 60% Merino Wool, 20% Baby Alpaca, and 20% Silk. This yarn is both soft and drapes beautifully, with a yardage of 145 yds / 133 m per 50 g skein. You will need 5 skeins (725 yds / 663 m) of DK weight yarn in the stunning Shade: Sand.
Needles: Use US size 5 (3.75 mm) straight or circular needles, or whichever size is necessary to achieve the correct gauge for your project.
Notions: Gather your supplies including stitch markers and a tapestry needle for weaving in ends and finishing your shawl beautifully.
Gauge: Achieve a gauge of 20 stitches and 32 rows over 4 inches in stockinette stitch to ensure your shawl turns out perfectly.
Whether you're attending a wedding, celebrating a special event, or simply wanting to keep warm in style, the Sir Duke Shawl is the ideal choice.
