Introducing the versatile tam knitting pattern that looks stunning on both the right and wrong sides, allowing you to choose your favorite way to wear it! This unique design offers the flexibility to weave in ends carefully, enabling you to sport the tam in two different styles.
Crafted to fit an average woman's head, you can easily adjust the size by picking a slightly larger needle for a more comfortable fit for larger adult heads. Experimenting with different yarn types, I’ve worked samples in both DK and worsted yarn. Both options work wonderfully, but the DK weight results in a drapier and softer fabric, perfect for a stylish modern look.
For the best results, I recommend using wool or a yarn with some bounce or memory, as this will enhance the overall shape and wearability of your tam. It's worth considering a silk or cotton blend, though do keep in mind that the band may stretch over time, so adjustments will be necessary for those materials.
This knitting pattern utilizes a smaller needle size exclusively for the band, while the body of the tam is worked in a larger needle size, ensuring a comfortable fit that maintains its structure. I have personally knitted two versions of this charming tam, though please note that the pattern has not undergone formal testing.
