Souvenir of a Killing
This striking knitting pattern originally debuted in [Hitch][1] and has been thoughtfully rewritten and reimagined for its launch as an individual knitting project. The Souvenir of a Killing pattern is designed to evoke the iconic visual elements from Alfred Hitchcock's classic film, Vertigo, which has long captivated audiences with its stunning graphic posters and unforgettable opening titles created by the renowned graphic designer Saul Bass. Drawing inspiration from Bass's use of Lissajous spirals to depict dizziness, I incorporated encircling chevrons into the design, creating a unique and visually compelling look.
In the film, the character Scottie poignantly reminds Judy that she should not have kept “souvenirs of a killing.” While this line refers directly to a haunting necklace, it similarly resonates with Scottie's own struggle with his vertigo. This duality is beautifully mirrored in the Souvenir of a Killing knitting pattern, making it an evocative piece for any knitter who appreciates the art of storytelling through knitting. The beret and slouch styles are both knitted simply, employing only one color per row, which enhances the graphic nature of the design.
