Spring Buds
This past year, I truly fell in love with sportweight yarns, and I'm excited to share this delightful pattern with you! Sportweight yarns offer a perfect balance—they provide a lighter gauge while knitting up just a bit faster than fingering weights. The result is a beautifully lightweight fabric that still retains warmth, making it ideal for transitional seasons. With spring just around the corner, I envisioned a lightweight yet cozy hat adorned with the budding beauty of this season.
This charming spring hat features a unique slip stitch pattern on the body, which adds lovely texture, complemented by a delightful twisted stitch brim that enhances both style and durability. It’s perfect for keeping you warm during those cooler days while still being light enough to wear comfortably.
Finished Size
This hat measures 18 inches around unstretched and 9 inches from the cast-on edge to the top. It is designed to comfortably stretch and fit head sizes ranging from 20 to 24 inches, making it a versatile accessory for anyone.
Materials
For this spring hat, you'll need Knit Picks Stroll Sport [75% Merino, 25% Nylon; 137 yards in 50 grams], in the beautiful Color: Peapod. You’ll require 2 skeins, or approximately 250 yards of any sport weight blockable yarn for your project.
Needles
To create this cozy hat, you will need the following needles: a 16-inch US2/2.75mm circular needle and a 16-inch US4/3.5mm circular needle, along with a set of US4/3.5mm double pointed needles. Be sure to choose a needle size that helps you obtain the correct gauge. Additionally, have one 16-inch needle that is 2 sizes smaller for the brim section.
Gauge
To ensure your hat turns out beautifully, aim for a gauge of 24 stitches and 32 rows per 4 inches using the larger needle.
Get ready to embrace the season with this lightweight spring hat! It’s not just a stylish accessory, but a wonderful project that highlights the beauty of sportweight yarns while keeping you warm and comfortable. Happy knitting!
