As spring finally rolls in—albeit a little late this year with the surprise of snow even in April—I found myself daydreaming about the beauty of the first flowers in bloom. Inspired by this longing for warmer days, I decided it was time to bring spring to life through my knitting. This led to the creation of the Springish Shawl, a beautifully designed lace shawl featuring gentle crescent shaping and lovely scalloped edges that mimic the delicate nature of blossoming flowers.

After completing the Springish Shawl, I had a bit of yarn left over—quite possibly enough to craft a gorgeous matching hat! Utilizing my knitter’s instincts and a bit of yarn squishing, I envisioned the Springish Hat. This charming accessory is not only lacy and light, but it is also incredibly durable thanks to the high-quality wool. It's the perfect companion for any springtime adventure, whether you're taking a leisurely stroll through the woods or enjoying a cool morning in the garden.

The intricate center design of the hat draws inspiration from the first leaves of spring and pays homage to the classic 1942 Canadian Cotton Spool Company pattern, Hemlock Ring. I also incorporated techniques from Marianne Kinzel's renowned book, “First Book of Modern Lace Knitting,” ensuring that each stitch captures the essence and elegance of this delightful season.
