Springtime Socks
About the Design: I draw inspiration from a variety of textiles to create unique designs, and this particular motif is no exception. This beautiful pattern is inspired by a delicate lace design known as Springtime, featured in Marianne Kinzel's renowned "First Book of Modern Lace Knitting." In my approach, I chose to concentrate the intricate lace patterning on the cuff and leg of the project, while keeping the foot section elegantly plain. Additionally, I incorporated a classic heel stitch pattern for the heel flap, heel turning, and toe shaping, which not only enhances durability but also adds visual interest. All three vibrant colorways were crafted using Nature Spun Worsted, an all-wool yarn that provides excellent yardage and versatility; it performs beautifully as a DK weight yarn.
Original Soft Colorway: To explore a gentle palette, I selected #N20 Arctic Moss (Main Color), #N98 Pink Please (Accent A), and #730 Natural (Accent B). Bright Colorway: For a pop of color, the bright option features #522 Nervous Green (Main Color), #105 Bougainvillea (Accent A), and #N81 Aran (Accent B). Dark Colorway: Lastly, the rich Dark Colorway uses #121 Tornado Teal (Main Color), #N81 Cranberry Fog (Accent A), and #N03 Grey Heather (Accent B).
Gauge: Achieving the right gauge is essential for this project, with a measurement of 7.5 stitches and 10 rounds per inch (2.5 cm) in Stockinette stitch. When working with the stranded pattern, the gauge is slightly different, measuring 7 stitches and 8.5 rounds per inch. To ensure the perfect fit, it's recommended to use size 2 needles or adjust your needle size accordingly to obtain the correct gauge. Remember, taking the time to check your gauge can save time and frustration later on.
