Mitred Squares Knitting Pattern
No Sewing, No Blocking Required!
Use One Yarn at a Time for Ease!
Welcome to our third version of a fascinating mathematical creation, often referred to as the squared square. This unique design consists of 21 differently sized squares, representing the minimum number of distinct squares that can be arranged to form a larger square. Each square beautifully nests all of the smaller squares within it, showcasing a captivating interplay of sizes.
The squares in this project are mitred, and the innovative pattern allows you to easily pick up from existing squares, creating a seamless look. An easy-to-follow diagram guides you step-by-step, showing you precisely where to join the new squares, ensuring a smooth knitting experience.
The stunning afghan featured in the photos was crafted using DK yarns and measures 120 cm (48”) square. While the pattern is designed with DK yarn in mind, feel free to experiment with other yarn types; just be aware that this may alter the final dimensions of your project.
At first glance, this may seem like a complex knitting endeavor, but rest assured, it’s truly simple and incredibly addictive! This project is nearly mindless once you get the hang of it, making it perfect for relaxed knitting at home. However, we advise against taking it on your travels—since it's a continuous piece, frequent turning at the end of each square is necessary.
This captivating knitting pattern was designed by talented mathekniticians Pat Ashforth and Steve Plummer, who have expertly combined mathematics and art in this delightful project.
