Stay-at-home-socks
The pattern includes detailed instructions in both German and English!
Most of the socks I knit are specifically designed for Andrew, my dearest friend and beloved partner. One of the ongoing challenges I face is finding a design that strikes a balance: something that is not too fancy in terms of color and pattern for him, yet engaging enough so that the knitting process itself remains interesting for me. This becomes particularly important since these men's socks tend to be on the bigger side.
To address this challenge, I decided to embark on creating my own ideas for men’s socks. This venture has proven to be incredibly fun and quite exciting! At the same time, the pattern I developed is very straightforward, allowing for comfortable “mindless knitting,” which is a crucial aspect for those longer projects.
The socks featured in this pattern are designed to fit a shoe size of 46, which corresponds to UK size 11 and US size 12. For optimal results, I recommend using sock yarn (fingering weight), with a yardage of 459 yards or 420 meters per 100 grams. A great yarn choice is Lana Grossa Meilenweit, which provides excellent durability and comfort. The recommended needle size is 2.5 mm (US 1½), with a gauge of 30 stitches and 42 rows measuring 10x10 cm, or 4x4 inches.
You have the flexibility to choose the length of the cuff ribbing, select your favorite heel flap variation, and decide on your preferred toe style. Alternatively, you can choose to follow my comprehensive instructions throughout the entire sock-making process, from the cast on, through the gusset and heel, all the way to the toes. This pattern is ideal for knitters of all skill levels looking to create stylish and comfortable socks for the special men in their lives. Happy knitting!
