Strigidae Mitts
Introducing the Strigidae Fingerless Mitts, a beautifully designed accessory featuring all-over twisted ribbing and a charming central cable panel that evokes the imagery of little owls peeking out from tree branches. Named after the scientific order of owls found across North America, Strigidae, these mitts celebrate the enchanting saw-whet owl, one of my personal favorites.
These versatile fingerless mitts are perfect for keeping your hands cozy indoors throughout the fall and winter months, while also serving as stylish layers for chilly outdoor adventures during the transitional seasons! Whether you're sipping a warm beverage at home or enjoying a brisk autumn walk, the Strigidae Mitts combine comfort and elegance with ease.
The pattern includes a detailed charted design for the back of the hand, making it ideal for knitters who are comfortable working from charts and twisted stitches. With instructions spanning three informative pages, you'll also find useful tips on how to work cables without a cable needle, enhancing your knitting skill set.
SIZING: Our Strigidae Fingerless Mitts come in two sizes—S (L)—designed to fit hand circumferences of 6.25-6.75 inches (16-17 cm) and 7-7.75 inches (18-19.5 cm) around, with no ease or negative ease, ensuring a snug yet comfortable fit.
MATERIALS: This pattern utilizes fingering weight wool or sock yarn, requiring approximately 225 yards (206 meters) for size S and 250 yards (228 meters) for size L. The mitts are shown in the exquisite Miss Babs ‘Cosmic’ sock yarn in a warm ‘russet’ hue. You will need 2.5 mm/ US#1.5 needles—or a size necessary to achieve the correct gauge—and some waste yarn or a small stitch holder to facilitate your knitting process.
Whether you are an experienced knitter or just beginning your journey, the Strigidae Fingerless Mitts offer an engaging project that results in a stylish and functional accessory. Explore your creativity and keep warm with this delightful pattern!
