Strong Chains
INFO: Meet Judy of Giggling Gecko Yarns, one of my closest friends, forged through our shared passion for knitting. Our friendship is effortless, filled with love, support, and encouragement throughout our lives. Inspired by this deep connection, I envisioned a geometric pattern that features flowing, continuous, and rounded infinity chains, designed in a metallic-looking color to symbolize the strength of our bond. These chains represent the beautiful links that connect us all, as we create our circles of love and friendship through crafting.
Introducing 'Strong Chains' – a stunning crescent shawl pattern that's intended to be worked flat from the top down, beginning with a convenient garter tab. This delightful design involves increasing stitches along the edges on every row, which elegantly shapes the shawl into a lovely crescent silhouette, perfect for any occasion or season.
This knitting pattern is thoughtfully crafted with detailed, fully written instructions that include stitch counts for every section, and it also features a clear chart for the repeat sections, making it easy to follow along as you knit. Whether you're a beginner or an experienced knitter, you'll enjoy the satisfying process of creating this unique piece.
YARN: For this project, I recommend using Giggling Gecko Yarns in their exquisite Sportlandia (100% Superwash Merino, 100 grams, 287 yards/262 meters). The sample used for this shawl required approximately 817 yards (747 meters) in the beautiful color Gravel Grey. Alternatively, you can use any Sport weight yarn, estimating around 809-930 yards (740-850 meters) to achieve a similar effect.
GAUGE: It’s important to achieve the right gauge for your project. After blocking, 4 inches (10 cm) in garter stitch should measure 18 stitches x 40 rows. In the cable pattern, you should aim for 25 stitches x 31 rows. This gauge ensures that your shawl will drape beautifully and maintain its shape, making it a lovely addition to your wardrobe.
