The structural integrity of the brim is maintained through the recommended cast-on method, the tight gauge, and specific shaping techniques—plus, be sure to leave the wraps in place unless stated otherwise in the instructions.
When it comes to yarn selection, this hat can be crafted using either DK weight yarn (300 yards using 2 strands held together) or worsted weight yarn. Opt for a fiber blend, such as a vibrant hemp mixture, to ensure that your finished hat retains its desired structure and firmness. For our sample, we used Elsebeth Lavold’s popular Hempathy yarn, which is composed of 34% hemp, 41% cotton, and 25% modal. This delightful blend offers both beauty and functionality, with 50g spools translating to 140m (approximately 153 yards). Two skeins of this yarn, held together, will give you the perfect material to create your own sun-blocking hat!
