Sun Bonnet

Ideal for those sunny yet crisp days, our Sun Bonnet pattern is the perfect solution for parents seeking a stylish and functional accessory for their little ones. Living up north, we understand that the sun can shine brightly long before the air feels warm enough for most sun hats. That’s why we designed this unique bonnet to protect baby’s eyes from harsh sunlight while still providing the cozy warmth of a traditional knitted bonnet. With the Sun Bonnet pattern, you can enjoy the best of both worlds!

When knitted in soft wool, this appealing piece ensures that your little ones stay snug and warm during those transitional weather weeks. Alternatively, crafting it in breathable cotton will quickly turn this bonnet into a beloved summer wardrobe staple that your baby can wear with ease and comfort. Versatile for any season, the Sun Bonnet will keep your child stylish and protected all year round!

Available in a variety of sizes to fit your growing baby, including 0-3, 3-6, 6-12, 12-18, 24, and 36 months, our pattern caters to different ages and stages.

To create this delightful bonnet, you’ll need the following materials: yarn in heavy fingering or sport weight (whatever produces the proper gauge) with a yardage of 115-200 yards (105-183 meters). For needles, you will need size US 2.5 or 3 mm 24” (61 cm) circulars or straight needles, as well as US 2.5 or 3 mm double-pointed needles (DPNs).

Don’t forget the essential notions: you’ll need two stitch markers (one fixed), a yarn needle for weaving in ends, and a measuring tape to ensure perfect sizing. Additionally, to provide added support for the brim of the bonnet, we recommend using a piece of interfacing or flexible recycled plastic that can be easily cut to fit inside the brim, helping to reinforce it and maintain its shape.

Embrace your creativity and keep your little one protected and comfy—download our Sun Bonnet pattern today and get started on your next delightful knitting project! Whether you knit it for your baby or as a beautiful gift for friends and family, this pattern is sure to be cherished!
