Sun & Skyland
Have you ever held a skein of yarn that seemed to whisper its destiny to you? When I first embraced Blue Sky Fiber’s new Skyland yarn, it unmistakably proclaimed, “HAT!” Then, like a courteous friend, it added, “Could you sprinkle in some gold, please?” As experienced knitters know, when yarn starts speaking, it’s only polite to listen and create something magical.
Having not dabbled in stranded color work for some time, I was eager to dive back in. I decided to create a stunning sunburst motif that would not only showcase the beautiful colors of the yarn but also keep you cozy during chilly days. To enhance warmth, I cleverly doubled the brim, ensuring ears stay toasty while keeping those color floats hidden neatly inside. As I progressed, I experimented with two different crown styles to give you the freedom to craft a hat that truly resonates with your personal style: the trendy hipster crown (as pictured) and a classic traditional crown.
Yarn Requirements: For the main color (MC), you will need 125 (155, 165, 175) yds/115 (140, 150, 160) m and for the contrasting color (CC), gather 25 (35, 35, 40) yds/25 (30, 30, 35) m. This combination not only highlights the beauty of the yarn but also perfectly complements that striking golden touch.
Techniques to Explore: This project is perfect for enhancing your knitting skills, featuring techniques like Provisional Cast On, Stranded Color Work, and the option to choose your adventure with crowns: whether you prefer the contemporary hipster crown or the traditional crown. Plus, for those opting for the hipster crown, you can master Kitchener stitch and the Three Needle Bind Off for a polished finish.
Join me in creating this delightful hat that not only keeps you warm but also showcases your creative flair! Whether you are a beginner keen to tackle stranded color work or an experienced knitter looking for a new challenge, this pattern offers something for everyone. Grab your skeins and let’s make something beautiful together!
