Sundae Cupcake Hat

$3.00

This deliciously fun and whimsical hat is a delightful project for knitters who are comfortable using circular and double pointed needles, or the Magic Loop technique. With a skill set that requires just the basic stitches—knit and purl—along with increases and decreases, this pattern is accessible to knitters of various skill levels. Offering seven sizes, ranging from a petite 12" Premie to a generous 24" X-L Adult, the pattern includes separate instructions tailored for both smaller and larger sizes.

The hat is ingeniously crafted in one continuous piece, starting from the cake to the cherry, ensuring a seamless knitting experience. The only exception is the optional outer ridge of whipped cream, which can be beautifully picked up and knit last. This rolled stockinette outer ridge works beautifully for all sizes, adding a touch of flair. For larger sizes, there's a charming option for a wavy ruffled ridge, although keep in mind that such a ruffled edge might be too much for a baby hat, so consider your audience.

You will only need small amounts of four colors of 4-ply worsted weight yarn, with a gauge of 4-4.25 stitches per 1" (which translates to 16-17 stitches = 4"/10cm). For my sample hats, I chose to use Red Heart Supersaver yarn, known for its broad variety of vibrant colors; however, any similar worsted weight yarn will work perfectly. This pattern is also a fantastic opportunity to utilize those leftover scrap balls of yarn you may have lingering in your stash, making it not just a fun project, but an eco-friendly one as well. Additionally, gift tags are included for you to print, allowing you to personalize your creation beautifully.

If you're looking to add a unique hat to your spring or winter collection, or if you're seeking a perfect knitted gift for a loved one, this hat pattern is a delightful choice that will surely bring smiles. Don’t forget to grab your knitting needles and dive into this fun and creative knitting project!
