Sunflower Mittens - knitting pattern

Sunflower Mittens

$6.40

For many years, my family and I lived in a charming 200-year-old Maine farmhouse, where the beauty of nature inspired my creativity. One of my favorite rituals was planting vibrant sunflowers beside the back door. The brilliant yellow petals of these sunflowers beautifully contrasted with the deep red clapboards of our home, creating a picturesque scene that attracted various bird visitors. I adored their towering presence, which made us feel small yet magical, almost like the wee folk. These delightful mitts are designed to remind you of those sunny blossoms, bringing warmth and brightness to even the coldest winter days.

Size: The mitts feature a hand circumference of 8.5” (21.5 cm) and a length of 10” (25 cm), making them a cozy fit for most hands.

Yarn: To create these enchanting mitts, you'll need Nash Island Light yarn, a luxurious 100% Maine island wool. One skein (175 yds / 160 m per 100g) in Color Driftwood is needed for the main color (MC), along with an additional skein of Finch for the contrasting color (CC), which requires 28 yds (25.5 m) of worsted weight yarn.

Needles: For optimal results, use US 7/4.5 mm double-pointed needles (DPNs) and US 5/3.75 mm DPNs, or adjust to a size that helps you achieve the specified gauge.

Notions: Don’t forget essential notions like stitch markers and a tapestry needle to help you craft your mitts seamlessly.

Gauge: Ensure a proper fit by achieving a gauge of 22 stitches and 22 rounds per 4” (10 cm) in the colorwork pattern when using the larger needles, after blocking.

Bring a touch of summer into your winter wardrobe with this delightful sunflower-inspired mitt pattern. Perfect for gifting or personal use, these cozy accessories will keep your hands warm while evoking the sunny spirit of those vibrant blooms. Dive into your knitting journey today!
