Taighean - Child Mittens Knitting Pattern

Introducing ‘Taighean’, which translates to ‘houses’ in Scots Gaelic. This enchanting child mitten pattern features a delightful repetitive little house motif in a multitude of vibrant shade combinations. Each row of houses is crafted in a unique shade, creating a stunning gradient effect, and is cleverly offset by half a motif from the previous row. With this design, I aimed to capture the beautiful colors I encountered during my past travels to the picturesque landscapes of Scotland.

I first debuted the Taighean pattern as adult fingerless mitts in my book Colour Moves. Due to the playful and whimsical nature of the design, I decided to adapt the same charming motif for children’s mittens, available in two convenient sizes. The small size, perfect for toddlers aged 2-4 years, incorporates 7 shades, while the larger size, ideal for kids aged 5-7 years, features 8 shades of the exquisite Kate Davies Designs Milarrochy Tweed yarn.
