Are you ready to explore a captivating new knitting technique? Introducing Roositud, also known as the Estonian Inlay! This fascinating colorwork method is a traditional way to enhance your mittens and socks, adding stunning visual interest reminiscent of embroidery. However, unlike embroidery, Roositud integrates contrasting yarn into your knitting as you progress, allowing you to work seamlessly with your main color throughout the project. Intrigued? As you create these beautiful mitts, you'll also have the opportunity to master additional techniques like the corrugated rib and Baltic braid, enriching your knitting skills!

This pattern includes a comprehensive Estonian Inlay Tutorial, perfect for both novice and experienced knitters eager to expand their repertoire.

Finished Measurements: Designed to fit a palm circumference of 7–8”/18–20 cm and measuring 7½”/19 cm in length, these mitts will ensure a comfortable fit. Please note that measurements are taken after blocking to achieve the best results.

Yarn Requirements: For the Main Color, you will need approximately 150 yards (137 meters) of sport weight yarn. We recommend using 1 skein of Plymouth Yarn Galway Sport, made of 100% Highland Wool, which provides 151 yards/188 meters in a 50-gram skein; color #722 Sand Heather is an excellent choice. For the Contrast Color, prepare approximately 100 yards (92 meters) of sport weight yarn to complete your design.

Gauge: To achieve the desired look in your knitting, aim for a gauge of 24 stitches and 34 rounds per 4”/10 cm on size US 3 (3.5 mm) needles when working in Stockinette stitch, after blocking. Proper gauge is essential for ensuring your finished mitts fit perfectly!

Don't miss out on the chance to create a pair of gorgeous mitts using the unique Roositud technique. Elevate your knitting experience by diving into this traditional craft today!
