Tanumshede

$8.00

Tanumshede, a UNESCO World Heritage site, is renowned for its remarkable Bronze Age rock carvings that date back to between 1800 and 500 BC. This historical treasure features a wide array of motifs, including intricate depictions of longships, animals, and human figures. With close to 1500 documented rock carvings in the area, new discoveries are still being made, showcasing the rich cultural heritage of our ancestors.
Among the stunning motifs, one can find a striking longship transporting a deer, dating back to 1200-1050 BC, alongside a fascinating sun horse — a symbolic representation of the belief that a horse pulled the sun across the sky. These carvings not only serve as artistic expressions but also as glimpses into the spiritual life of the Bronze Age people.

Tanumshede is also the name of the second shawl in a carefully curated set of three designs released as part of the World Heritage Knit Along (KAL) by Knit & Knag Designs. The series also includes the exquisite L'Anse Aux Meadows shawl and the captivating Jelling Rune Stones shawl, each inspired by unique historical themes.
Whether you are an experienced knitter or just starting out, these intricate patterns cater to all skill levels and are available in English, French, and German. Explore the beauty of Tanumshede and connect with history through your knitting experience!
