The Duluth Suite
In the summer of a memorable year, Duluth experienced an extraordinary weather event that brought an incredible amount of rain. Over a short span of just two days, we received a staggering 7.2 inches of rainfall, leaving the already saturated ground struggling to absorb any more water. Nestled on a hillside reminiscent of Seattle, we watched as the rain cascaded down, turning into torrents that caused damage to roads and impacted the local community. Thankfully, we were fortunate to have no loss of life during this challenging time.
In honor of this noteworthy event, I designed a delightful collection of hats known as The Duluth Suite. Each hat in this suite is inspired by our rainy summer and features whimsical names: Rain, More Rain, Even More Rain, and Enough Already. The hats showcase a small rolled brim, 2-color corrugated ribbing, and stunning stranded color-work in three variations, all beautifully crafted with centered double decreases. These hats not only represent the essence of our rainy summer but also evoke a sense of creativity and style that you can easily incorporate into your own wardrobe. The fourth iteration, Enough Already, is a serene, dryer version perfect for those who prefer milder weather without the rain.
For the three-color version of The Duluth Suite, you will need just under 100 yards of the main color, along with 60+ yards of the second and third colors. For the rain-themed ensemble, I used Cascade 220's vibrant shades: green 2429 and blue 9323. Whether you're looking to recount the story of our unforgettable rains or simply want to add a unique piece to your knitting collection, these hats are sure to be a wonderful addition. Enjoy creating and wearing these hats much more than we enjoyed the rain itself!
