The Gather Shawl
When I set out to design this exquisite shawl, one thing was certain: I wanted to use Noro’s new Taiyo yarn. This yarn is not only soft to the touch but also wonderfully inviting, making it impossible to resist knitting with it. However, the question remained—what style would best showcase the beauty of this yarn? After completing a complex design that tested my creative limits, I craved a project that was simpler, lighter, and, most importantly, fun!
As luck would have it, while I was flipping through TV channels for some inspiration, I stumbled upon a classic film titled “Blood in the Sand.” In one captivating scene, the hero passionately embraces the heroine, and while their kiss is still to come, my eyes were drawn to the stunning shawl draped over her shoulders. It was a breathtaking piece knit in what we often refer to today as “Old Spanish Lace.” The intricate pattern was unmistakable, and I couldn’t help but feel a surge of inspiration. It became immediately clear to me that this was the perfect design to bring my vision for the Taiyo yarn to life!
Without a moment to lose, I dashed over to my beloved Barbara Walker's stitch books for knitting guidance. After perusing the intricate lace patterns, I finally decided on a design that would not only highlight the unique qualities of the Taiyo yarn but also pay homage to the classic elegance of the shawl I had admired on screen. This project promises to be a delightful blend of tradition and modern flair, perfect for knitters seeking to create something beautiful and timeless.
