The Mackerel Shawl

$5.54

Discover the artistry of knitting with our exquisite Edwardian-inspired Mackerel Shawl pattern, influenced by the stunning painting by Algernon Telmage housed in the Bristol Museum and Art Gallery. The artwork captivated me with the serene portrayal of a woman and the charming goldfish in a bowl beside her. This inspired me to create my unique interpretation of the Mackerel Shawl, designed to be showcased in the great outdoors, closer to nature. Here’s the result of that inspiration!

This beautifully crafted shawl features a rectangular shape with a delicate fishtail border, expertly knitted first. This is followed by the main body section, which showcases columns of elegant mackerel motifs separated by intricate wave lace, lending a touch of fluidity and grace. To finish the design, a second border is meticulously grafted on using the Kitchener stitch, providing a polished look to the shawl.

Our Mackerel Shawl project is perfect for intermediate to advanced knitters who are comfortable with techniques such as ssk, k2tog, yo, and SK2P double decrease (Slip 1, k2tog, psso), as well as Kitchener stitch. Full instructions are provided in the pattern, ensuring a seamless knitting experience.

The pattern instructions offer both comprehensive charts and detailed written instructions, catering to different knitting preferences and styles. Additionally, this shawl has been thoughtfully test knitted and tech edited, guaranteeing that your journey in creating this beautiful piece is enjoyable and successful. To assist you further, we've included a link to my YouTube video, where you can watch a detailed demonstration of the knitting techniques used in this project.
