The Ostrich Race
Before I was born, my mother rode an ostrich, and my father was too afraid. This whimsical part of my family lore has profoundly shaped my childhood and perspective on the exotic, bravery, and gender roles. This inspiration is beautifully reflected in the design of the Exotic Dreams Shawl, a stunning accessory that will elevate any outfit!
SIZE: 68” long by 22 1/2” tall
MATERIALS: For this beautiful shawl, you will need Mrs. Crosby Loves to Play Train Case yarn, which is made from a luxurious blend of 55% merino, 15% nylon, and 30% Outlast viscose, weighing 3.5oz per 100g. You will require 2 skeins in the lovely colorway Simone.
TOOLS NEEDED: 1 US #6/4.00mm 32-inch circular needle, a tapestry needle, and 4 stitch markers.
GAUGE: Achieve a gauge of 18 stitches and 28 rows = 4” in stockinette stitch after blocking. Please note that one full chart repeat measures 4” tall by 4 1/4” wide after blocking. While gauge is not critical for this project, it is important to keep in mind that the gauge you achieve may affect total yardage required.
PATTERN NOTES: The unique construction of the Exotic Dreams Shawl begins with a cast-on at the bottom and is worked all in one piece, moving upwards. Shaping occurs by binding off two full pattern repeats' worth of stitches. For the best results, follow the recommended methods for both cast on and bind off to ensure a stretchy edge that is perfect for blocking.
