The World of Knitting
Final Update: 24/2/14
We are excited to announce that this popular knitting pattern is now available in an easy-to-follow 5-page format! The newly updated version features vibrant colored charts that conveniently fit on just two pages, along with additional photos and comprehensive notes designed to enhance your knitting experience.
Each stitch in this intricate design represents an impressive 30,000 square miles, so some fine detail may be lost in the overall pattern—this includes my own home, Guernsey, CI, which is only 25 square miles! However, the straightforward instructions ensure that all levels of knitters can enjoy this project. While the basic knitting and shaping techniques are accessible, be aware that the colorwork aspect can present some challenges, especially when dealing with tangly yarns.
To tackle the colorwork effectively, I recommend stranding the unused yarn loosely across the back of your work. To keep things from getting too messy, pick up the loose yarn with your working yarn every 3 stitches—this will help you avoid long loops that can interfere with your progress (see accompanying photo for a visual guide). For best results, use shorter lengths of the land colors, around 2 meters, and make sure to untangle them after each row. You’ll find that any yarn ends will conveniently hide within the globe design, allowing you to darn them in or even knot them securely without worry.
This pattern is perfect for knitters looking to create a unique piece that combines creativity with a touch of cartography. Whether you’re knitting for yourself or as a gift, the vibrant colors and intricate designs will surely impress. Get your knitting needles ready, and dive into this wonderful project today!
