Three Up & Two Across

$6.00

Curious about uniquely constructed mittens and their knitting viability? I decided to explore this concept using yarn and needles and achieved success with my bias-knit mittens! If you’re a fan of the enchanting world of Harry Potter, you’re likely familiar with the secret entrance to Diagon Alley: you simply go behind the Leaky Cauldron and tap the brick that is three up and two across from the garbage can. These mittens, cleverly knitted diagonally, pay homage to that magical moment. Get it? I crack myself up with these fun knitting puns!

Finished Measurements:
Palm Circumference (unstretched): 7 (7.75) inches
Total Length: 9.5 (10) inches

Construction Method:
These delightfully unique mittens begin at the center front, where the knitting journey takes shape. Once the desired number of stitches is gathered for the bias front, additional stitches are cast on for the palm section, transitioning your work into being knitted in the round, complete with a convenient thumb gusset. To provide a stylish finish, a few short rows are worked on the palm side to create pointed tops that perfectly align. When you reach the top of the mitten, it is closed beautifully with an inside-out three-needle bind-off technique. For a polished look, the bottom ribbing is crafted from stitches picked up around the bottom edge of the mitten, ensuring you achieve a neat and professional finish.

Embrace the joy of knitting with this whimsical and intricate bias-knit mitten pattern, perfect for both seasoned knitters and enthusiastic beginners looking to add a touch of magic to their projects. Download your free or paid patterns today and start crafting your own enchanted creations!
