Tied Knots
Being a wife to a passionate yarn enthusiast, or a "yarnie," comes with countless delightful benefits. One of the greatest joys includes the continuous abundance of colorful skeins all around you, creating a vibrant, creative environment. Beyond the aesthetic pleasures, you also have the unique opportunity to test out new yarn bases and colorways, which is incredibly exciting! This delightful project marks my second collaboration with my husband, who crafts beautiful yarns under the name “Martin’s Lab.” For this special occasion, he prepared an exquisite selection of DK weight yarns in stunning colors, and I had the pleasure of designing something very dear to my heart—a cozy cabled hat. The name of the hat is particularly meaningful; it symbolizes the intricate cables that adorn it and beautifully reflects the journey of our lives intertwined with colorful yarn ever since we tied the knot. Literally and figuratively!
Yarn: This project requires just 1 skein of Martin’s Lab Tibetan DK, which is composed of 60% merino, 20% yak, and 20% silk, providing a luxurious feel. Each skein contains 212 meters (232 yards) per 100 grams, making it the perfect choice for this stylish accessory. The color featured in this pattern is “Seashells,” a beautiful hue that adds a touch of warmth to any winter ensemble.
Gauge: To achieve the best results, maintain a gauge of 28 stitches and 30 rounds in a 10 cm (4”) square while working in the cable pattern, using a 4.00 mm (US #6) needle. Taking the time to check your gauge is crucial—it's the key to ensuring your hat fits perfectly! If necessary, adjust your needle size to obtain the correct gauge to ensure the best fit and look for your finished project.
This cabled hat pattern not only showcases beautiful craftsmanship but also serves as a warm reminder of the love and creativity shared between partners in the knitting world. So, gather your supplies, enjoy some quality time with your favorite yarn, and create something truly special!
