Tietze Hat
This beginner-friendly hat pattern is specifically designed to help novice knitters transition from knitting flat to mastering the art of knitting in the round. It incorporates essential techniques such as purl stitches and decreases, making it an excellent choice for those looking to build their knitting skills with ease and confidence.
I named this delightful hat after one of my favorite inspirations, my kindergarten teacher, Mrs. Tietze (pronounced TEE-tsee), whose endless reservoir of imagination and unwavering patience ignited my passion for creativity.
This versatile pattern was initially featured in the ["How to Teach Beginning Knitting"][2] module, and it remains available as a foundational project for beginner knitters. The teaching module offers a comprehensive guide to conducting a three-part beginning knitting course, while this hat pattern serves as an ideal first project for those new to knitting.
The smaller version of the hat comfortably fits older children and adults with head circumferences of 20–22 inches (51–56 cm). The larger size, as pictured, is designed for adults with head circumferences of 22–24 inches (56–61 cm), making it a perfect accessory for a wide range of wearers.
