Trees and Diamonds
Welcome to my knitted hat pattern, created for the November 2019 KDD "It's on Your Heid" knitalong! This delightful hat is crafted using small quantities of the now discontinued KDD Buachaille yarn from my stash. However, fear not! This pattern is versatile and can be easily adapted for any DK/8ply weight yarn, making it perfect for using up those odds and ends from your collection.
As a lover of vibrant rainbows and breathtaking sunsets, I was inspired to design a hat that captures the essence of these enchanting visuals. The resulting pattern can evoke either a beautiful rainbow or a stunning sunset, depending on your color choices. Throughout this project, I thoroughly enjoyed experimenting with various patterns that fit into a 9 by 9 stitch diamond—an excellent way to unleash your creativity.
This knitted hat is designed to comfortably fit an average-sized adult head. The original version of this hat was knitted in a vibrant array of rainbow colors, followed by a chic "monochrome" iteration. However, I couldn't resist adding splashes of color to the ribbing, which adds a delightful touch even in a more subdued palette. At the time of knitting, the world outside was covered in snow and painted in shades of grey, but if you look closely, you can always find hints of color—whether it’s in the berries on the bushes, the delicate dead beech leaves, or the vibrant moss clinging to the fence.
I truly hope you enjoy this engaging knitting pattern and that it inspires you to create your version of this hat, tailored to your unique color preferences. Whether you choose a bright and bold look or a sophisticated monochrome style, this hat is sure to keep you warm and stylish. Happy knitting!
