Vary
Vary: to change periodically or in succession; differ or alternate
Introducing the stunning Asymmetric Shawl, a beautiful knitting pattern that allows you to explore various knitting techniques while creating a piece that’s uniquely your own. This bias wrap gracefully transitions from simple garter stripes to intricate slipstitch colorwork, ensuring a dynamic and creative knitting experience. As you cast on at the long, narrow end, you’ll notice how Vary grows on the bias, utilizing only one color at a time in each row for a clean, striking appearance.
Whether you choose to use two colors or more, you can make this shawl a true reflection of your artistic vision by varying the placement of the different stitch patterns. The straightforward construction of this pattern is perfect for knitters of all levels and is adaptable to different amounts of yardage, giving you the freedom to create a custom piece that meets your personal style.
Techniques & Skills Used: This pattern incorporates essential knitting skills, including knit/purl, increasing/decreasing, and slipstitch colorwork. Note that the slipstitch pattern will be provided in written format only.
Yarn: For this project, we recommend String Theory Hand Dyed Yarn Selku, which features a luxurious blend of 50% silk and 50% merino wool, with a total of 375 yards (343m / 113g) per skein. You will need 1 skein for the main color (MC) and 1 skein for the contrasting color (CC). The shawl is showcased in the captivating shades of Viola (MC) and Juice (CC), using approximately 340 yards of MC and 370 yards of CC, ensuring a vibrant visual appeal.
Other Materials: To create your asymmetric shawl, you will need a US 7 (4.5mm) 32” circular needle or another size that matches your gauge. A yarn needle will also be necessary for weaving in ends and finishing touches.
Gauge: Achieve a gauge of 15 stitches and 30 rows per 4 inches in garter stitch after blocking to ensure your shawl turns out just right.
