Vissenstaart Socks
Introducing the charming Vissenstaart Socks, designed for knitting enthusiasts looking to add a touch of Dutch elegance to their collection. These cuff-down socks draw inspiration from the stunning fishtail braids of Dutch culture and have been meticulously test knit in all three sizes. Perfect for knitters at various skill levels, the Vissenstaart Socks feature three unique styles of braided cables, providing both variety and visual interest, paired with a cozy stockinette toe for ultimate comfort.
The design includes a cabled heel flap crafted with slipped stitches for added durability, complemented by a gusset for a snug fit. These sophisticated socks are beautifully knit using one of my favorite indie dyers, NOUMEA, showcasing unique variegated yarns alongside solid yarns, allowing you to explore your favorite combinations for your own pair!
To successfully knit the Vissenstaart Socks, you will need to master several skills: working with cables on both the right side (RS) and wrong side (WS), picking up stitches, executing short-row shaping, performing decreases, and using the Kitchener stitch for a seamless toe. A huge thank you to my fabulous test knitters: Dominique, Jennie, Larisa, and Ellen, for their invaluable help in perfecting this design!
The Vissenstaart Socks are available in three sizes: Adult S (M, L), designed to fit foot circumferences of 7.5 (9, 10.5) inches / 19 (22.5, 26) cm, with an approximate negative ease of 1 inch / 2.5 cm. Embrace your knitting skills and create a pair of these stunning socks that will not only keep your feet warm but also showcase your craftsmanship!
