Watercolor socks
This delightful knitting pattern showcases intricate mosaic knitting on the leg, paired with a touch of stranded color work in the heel. While working stranded color work back and forth can sometimes feel challenging, there's good news! When knitting the stockinette heel flap, it doesn’t require the same length as a traditional slipped stitch heel flap. This means you can enjoy a few rows of captivating stranded color work while achieving a beautifully designed heel flap that stands out.
To get started, you'll need two colors: a Main Color (MC) and a Contrasting Color (CC). This pattern utilizes fingering weight yarn with 400 meters per 100 grams. For MC, I suggest using BBB Super Trekking in the striking color 9512. For the CC, I used my own hand-dyed “Regia 4-ply for Hand-Dye,” which adds a personal touch. Below is a breakdown of the yardage you'll need:
- MC: Approximately 76 (120, 154, 240, 275, 340) yards, 70 (110, 140, 220, 250, 310) meters.
- CC: Approximately 22 (34, 40, 80, 80, 90) yards, 20 (30, 36, 70, 70, 80) meters.
Gauge: This pattern requires a gauge of 32 stitches and 43 rounds to 4 inches (10 cm) in stockinette stitch, using US #1 (2.25 mm) needles.
Whether you’re a seasoned knitter or a beginner looking to expand your skills, this pattern combines artistry and functionality in a way that’s both challenging and rewarding. With its engaging techniques and stylish results, you’ll want to add these colorful and cozy socks to your knitting repertoire!
