Whale shark & suckerfish
Welcome to an exciting adventure into the spectacular underwater world of knitting, where you can create stunning marine life without even getting your feet wet!
Introducing the whale shark, the largest fish in the ocean! Despite its name, the whale shark is indeed a shark, not a whale. These gentle giants can weigh as much as 20,000 kilograms, which is comparable to the weight of over 15 average-sized cars! Swimming alongside the whale shark, you'll often spot the fascinating remora, or suckerfish. So, why not embark on a creative journey and knit both fabulous fish? Together, they can… just keep swim-fin… just keep swim-fin…!
This delightful 24 cm whale shark has been meticulously crafted using 2.5 mm double pointed needles (US 1.5) with the lovely Rowan Felted Tweed yarn in seafarer (177) and the soft Lana Grossa Cool Wool Cotton Mix 130 (116) in white. The adorable 7 cm suckerfish, knitted in miniature, was created on 1 mm double pointed needles using Scanfil sock mending yarn in (002) white and (052) grey. For those looking for a bit more bulk, both patterns can be knitted on thicker needles with heavier yarn, giving them a charmingly chunky appearance.
TIP: To enhance playability and versatility, use a snap fastener so the remora can be easily attached or detached at your whim!
Both projects are rated as easy and can be knitted flat, featuring some engaging intarsia work to add detail and texture to your finished pieces.
