Wheat Ears Stole and Shawl Pin - knitting pattern

Wheat Ears Stole and Shawl Pin

$2.31

This knitting pattern is wonderfully flexible and adaptable, perfect for both novice and experienced knitters alike. The sample showcased is crafted in lace weight yarn, resulting in a light and airy shawl that flows beautifully. If you prefer a sturdier stole, you can easily substitute with a 4ply yarn, allowing for a thicker, cozier option. The length of the shawl is also highly customizable; simply repeat the central section as many times as desired to achieve your perfect dimensions.

This pattern is particularly suitable for individuals with some lace knitting experience, as it introduces a variety of techniques that may challenge and delight knitters. You will find written and charted instructions included, catering to your preferred method of following along. Whether you're a fan of charts or written instructions, this pattern has you covered.

The unique shawl pin featured in this pattern is a creative variation of a traditional Dorset button. Detailed, step-by-step instructions for creating the pin are sourced from my book, "Dorset Buttons with a Twist." These instructions are comprehensive, with both written descriptions and photographic guides ensuring clarity throughout the making process.

While I have provided a tension guide below, it's important to note that achieving the exact tension is not critical for this project. Using a different yarn will naturally result in a different tension. If you're unsure about your yarn choice, I recommend knitting a tension square as outlined below. This way, you can determine if you’re happy with the look and feel of the fabric before diving into the full project.

Tension: 10cm x 10cm square = 3 pattern repeats across (30 sts) and 2 pattern repeats up (32 rows) of the wheat ears main pattern, using size 4mm needles. Don't forget to have a yarn needle on hand for weaving in any loose ends!

For this project, I suggest using the Beaker Button Lace yarn, which comes in 100g skeins and provides around 1200m of beautiful, delicate coverage. Create a stunning shawl that’s perfect for layering or as a statement piece for any occasion, and craft a stylish shawl pin to elevate your finished item.
