Wheatsheaf Mittens

$5.54

This ribbed edging mitten pattern features a cozy (K1, P1) design that can be adjusted to create a longer, double-thick folded cuff. This design ensures that your wrists remain snuggly warm on cold days while effectively blocking out any draughts. Inside the pattern, you will find easy-to-follow charts along with clear written instructions, catering to knitters of all skill levels. Sizing for these beautiful knitted mittens is achievable by simply using smaller or larger needles. For instance, to create a Large size mitten, using 5mm or 5.5mm needles will comfortably transform your project into an XL size. The only customization needed is adjusting the length of the thumb according to the recipient's hand size, which could be longer or shorter based on personal preference—making these mittens uniquely tailored. For my own pair, I crafted a medium size mitten but opted to shorten the thumb to fit my smaller hands perfectly. This mitten pattern is worked from cuff to fingertip in the round, utilizing your preferred circular knitting method. I personally chose to use the magic loop technique, which is both efficient and enjoyable. When selecting your needle sizes, here’s a helpful guide: Ladies S: Use 3.25mm/US3 for the cuff and 4mm/US6 for the body of the mitten and thumb. Ladies M: Choose 3.5mm or 3.75mm/US4 or 5 for the cuff and 4.5mm/US7 for the body. Ladies L/S Mens: Opt for 4mm/US6 for the cuff and 5mm/US8 for the mitten's body and thumb. M Mens (Ladies XL): Use 4.5mm/US7 for the cuff and 5.5mm/US9 for crafting a cozy body of the mitten and thumb. By following this detailed pattern, not only will you be able to create a stylish and practical pair of mittens to keep your hands warm, but you'll also have the satisfaction of hand-knitting a thoughtful gift for friends and family. Enjoy your knitting journey, and happy crafting!
