Experience the ultimate in cozy fashion with the exquisite White Mountain Ruana, a stunning and chic layer designed for winter wanderings. This voluptuous and luxurious ruana is not only practical but also effortlessly stylish, making it a must-have addition to your cold-weather wardrobe. Featuring overlapping fronts, this versatile piece can be worn loose for a casual look or closed securely with snap fasteners and an I-cord tie for a more tailored silhouette.

The White Mountain Ruana showcases an easy-to-knit allover ripple rib pattern that adds sophisticated texture to its design, while the garter stitch collar provides an interesting contrast to the body. Perfect for knitters of all skill levels, this pattern combines elegance and comfort to keep you warm without sacrificing style.

Yarn: For this beautiful ruana, we recommend using Shibui Knits Maai, which is comprised of 70% superbaby alpaca and 30% fine merino, giving you a soft and luxurious finish. The yarn is sold in 50-gram skeins, with each skein providing approximately 160 meters. For our sample knitted in the gorgeous Brick 115 colorway, you will need 16 (18, 19) skeins, amounting to a total of 2480 (2720, 2960) meters of yarn to create your masterpiece.

Gauge: To ensure the perfect fit, be mindful of your gauge. Achieve a measurement of 25 stitches and 42 rows in Garter stitch to cover an area of 10 cm square. For the Ripple Rib pattern, maintain a gauge of 25 stitches and 32 rows over the same 10 cm square to ensure your ruana looks just as intended.

Notes: The construction of the White Mountain Ruana involves working back and forth in pieces that are later seamed together, ensuring a seamless finish. Begin with a provisional cast-on that is elegantly replaced by an I-cord bind off at the end for a polished look. For the sleeve parts, stitches are cast-on across their width. This design keeps the sleeve parts identical across all sizes, with the larger sizes finishing in a shorter rib. This ribbing is picked up and knitted at the very end, adding a lovely detail to the sleeves.
