Wildgrass Hat
Introducing the Wildgrass Hat—a fantastic stash-busting knitting project perfect for utilizing single skeins of DK weight yarn! This delightful hat pattern was originally crafted with the now-discontinued Happy-Go-Knitty Foxhow yarn, but fear not! My second version, which features a beautiful blue hue, was made as a thoughtful gift using another discontinued 4-ply yarn held double. Both iterations turned out wonderfully, showcasing the versatility of this pattern; it easily accommodates single skeins of both DK and 4-ply yarn!
The Wildgrass Hat puts a modern twist on the traditional Celtic-style cable design, beautifully juxtaposed with a reverse stockinette stitch background. I have long wanted to showcase this stunning cable work in a project, and I am thrilled with how well it stands out as a striking feature on this chic hat. Whether you're knitting for yourself or creating a heartfelt gift, this hat will surely impress. Enjoy the process and the stunning results!
Needles: You will need a 3.5mm/US Size 4 circular needle, ideally 16”/40 cm long, along with a 4mm/US Size 6 circular needle (16”/40 cm long recommended) for the hat. Additionally, a set of 4mm/US Size 6 double-pointed needles (dpns) is also required.
Notions: Be sure to have stitch markers and a tapestry needle on hand to help with construction and finishing touches.
Yarn: For the Wildgrass Hat, you will require just 1 skein of DK weight yarn (8 ply) or fingering weight yarn (4 ply) held double. The total quantity you will need is approximately 140-190 metres (or 153-208 yards). This makes the hat the ideal project for using up leftover yarn from previous projects!
