As my pile of completed soap sacks continues to grow, so too does my collection of yarn remnants! It’s the perfect time to dive into creative designs featuring colorwork. I discovered quite a bit of yarn in my stash that weighs between 0.5 to 0.6 oz—not enough for an entire soap sack but ideal for this unique pattern. By using simple stitches along with a couple of contrasting colors, you'll be able to craft a fun and customized design that showcases your creativity.

Soap sacks are not just a fantastic way to utilize your cotton yarn stash; they also offer a meaningful way to give back to the community. I was thrilled to get involved in this initiative but found it challenging to locate knitting patterns, which inspired me to provide this accessible option for fellow knitters seeking to contribute. These soap sacks can be a great addition to charity initiatives, making them not only a delightful project but also a generous gift.

Most soap sack patterns are traditionally designed to be 6” across and 8” tall, but I decided to flip the design for a fresh take! For this horizontal pattern, you will cast on enough stitches for 8” across (to later fold in half) and then knit 6” from the cast on edge. This variation allows for a more unique shape while still maintaining practicality in your final product.

Additionally, a crochet hook can be utilized for the bind-off, which offers a bit more elasticity, while primarily serving the purpose of creating a chain loop. However, if you prefer using an i-cord or another knitting technique for closure, feel free to skip the hook—it’s entirely up to your knitting style. With this pattern, you can effortlessly blend creativity, sustainability, and a charitable cause, ensuring your knitting experience is as rewarding as the beautiful soap sacks you'll create!
