Zigzag Cowl - knitting pattern

Zigzag Cowl

$3.59

In 2012, I designed a collection of eye-catching patterns specifically for the Erika Knight yarn collection. One of the standout pieces, the Zig Zag Hat, garnered Erika's attention, leading her to request a coordinating cowl and mittens set to further promote the exquisite yarn. This charming pattern was initially released in print across various regions, including the US, UK, and Europe. The yarn used, known for its super smooshy texture and warmth, complements the Zigzag design perfectly, making it an appealing choice for cozy winter accessories.

Excitingly, this 2022 update of the pattern now offers knitters the flexibility to choose between two methods: you can knit the Cowl flat and seam it at the end, or opt to work in the round for a seamless finish. I highly recommend using a circular needle for the Cowl, even if you decide to work it in rows, as the yarn can become quite heavy and a circular needle will help manage the weight comfortably.

Here are the detailed specifications for the cowl:

SIZE

Actual Circumference: 81.5cm (32in)

Length: 43cm (17in)

YARN

For this pattern, you'll need Erika Knight Vintage Wool, a worsted weight yarn made from 100% new wool, available in 87m (95yds) per 50g skein. You will require 5 skeins of either Drizzle (301) or Mulberry (308) for your project.

NEEDLES AND NOTIONS

You will need a 5mm (UK 6/US 8) circular needle that is 80cm long for this project (refer to the notes for more specifics).

Additionally, a stitch marker will be helpful as you work through the pattern.

TENSION

It's important to achieve the correct tension, which is 20 stitches and 26 rounds to measure 10x10cm over the pattern, using 5mm (UK 6/US 8) needles.

With this versatile cowl pattern, you can easily elevate your winter wardrobe. Perfect for personal use or as a heartfelt gift, this project is a must-have addition for any knitting enthusiast!
