Zigzag Mittens

Designed in collaboration with the renowned Erika Knight yarn collection in 2012, the Zig Zag hat quickly became a favorite for its trendy design and cozy warmth. Following the success of the hat, Erika invited me to create a matching cowl and mittens to further promote the delightful yarn. This stylish set was first released in print across the US, UK, and Europe, and remains a classic choice for knitters seeking both function and fashion. The yarn used for this collection, Erika Knight Vintage Wool, is incredibly smooshy and warm, making it the perfect medium to showcase the eye-catching Zigzag pattern.

**2023 Update:** This updated pattern includes clear instructions for knitting the mittens flat, allowing for easy seaming at the end. Additionally, we've corrected an error in the thumb gusset to ensure a smooth knitting experience.

**YARN**

The design utilizes Erika Knight Vintage Wool (Worsted Weight, 100% new wool, 87m/95yds per 50g skein) with a requirement of 2 skeins of beautiful Mulberry (14). For those exploring alternatives, yarn substitution suggestions are provided below to help you find the perfect match for your knitting project.

**NEEDLES**

To create this lovely pattern, you'll need a pair of 4mm (UK 8/US 6) needles, which can be either double-pointed needles (DPNs) or circular needles—preferably 60cm long if you’re working in the round. You’ll also need a pair of 4.5mm (UK 7/US 7) needles, suitable for the same types of knitting methods.
