Introducing the **Aerophile Shawl**—a stunning one-skein garter stitch shawl featuring elegant narrow wings that stretch wide like a soaring bird delighting in flight. This beautiful shawl design is not only visually striking but also easy to knit, making it perfect for both novice and experienced knitters alike. Each wing of the Aerophile is crafted using short rows, beginning with a provisional cast-on at the central spine. The scalloped top edge is artfully created by casting on additional stitches every six rows, adding a unique flair to the design.

Once you've completed both wings, you’ll finish off your project with a charming super-picot edging, binding off the live stitches along the bottom edge for a polished look. With its uncomplicated structure and simple textural edgings, Aerophile is designed to draw attention to the yarn’s unique colors and texture, making it an ideal choice for showcasing your favorite skein.

Techniques & Skills Used: This delightful shawl incorporates a range of knitting techniques, including provisional cast-on, backwards loop cast-on, knit stitches, increasing, and short rows. These skills make the Aerophile a perfect project for knitters looking to enhance their repertoire while creating a gorgeous accessory.

Yarn: For this project, we recommend **Dream In Color Smooshy** (100% merino, 450 yards/100g). You will need just 1 skein, and our sample is shown in the mesmerizing Deep Seaflower colorway. Please note that the sample used approximately 425 yards of light fingering weight yarn, ensuring a lovely and lightweight shawl.

Other Materials: Gather your supplies, which include a US 6 (4mm) 40” circular needle, or a size that matches your gauge, along with some scrap yarn for the provisional cast-on and a stitch holder to keep your stitches secure. Don’t forget a yarn needle to weave in those ends for a clean finish!

Gauge: Achieve a beautiful drape by ensuring a gauge of 20 stitches and 40 rows per 4 inches in garter stitch, after blocking. Following the recommended gauge will help you create a shawl that is not only stunning but also fits perfectly.

Embrace the joy of knitting with the Aerophile Shawl, where each stitch brings you closer to crafting a beautiful piece that reflects your style and passion for knitting!
