Yarn: To make your own Alfonsine Hat, you'll need about 55g (220m/240yd) of sock weight yarn. For my version, I used the luxurious Malabrigo Sock in the captivating color Tiziano Red, which adds a sophisticated touch to this accessory.
Others: Gather 6 stitch markers (don’t forget one special marker to indicate the beginning of the row), a crochet hook for casting on, and a tapestry needle for the final touches—binding off and weaving in the ends.
Needles: For this project, you will need circular needles or double-pointed needles (DPN) in sizes 2.5mm (US 1.5) or 2.75mm (US 2) for the ribbing. Additionally, prepare circular needles and/or DPN in size 3mm (US 2.5) for the main pattern work.
Size: The pattern is designed in one female size, suitable for a head circumference of approximately 54-58 cm (21 – 23”). If you wish to slightly adjust the size for a perfect fit, simply change your needle size to a larger or smaller gauge.
Gauge: Achieve a precise gauge of 27 stitches and 42 rows per 10cm (4”) in the lace pattern using the larger needles (3mm, US 2.5) after blocking. This ensures that your hat fits beautifully and showcases the delicate lacework effectively.
