Basket weave cowl
When I published the [(snowflake) basket weave beanie][1], I promised to share the matching cowl pattern soon. This beautiful cowl features a super-easy stranded design, showcasing only two colors throughout the entire project. The clever basket weave pattern means that the color strands are notably short, allowing you to avoid crossing any strands over the working yarn. This makes it a perfect project for both beginners and seasoned knitters looking for a quick and enjoyable knit.
The cowl is accentuated by herringbone edges at both the top and bottom, adding additional eye-catching detail to your finished piece. The pattern begins with a two-color cast-on, fully illustrated with a picture tutorial to guide you through every step of the process.
Inspiration for this unique cowl came from a basket I spotted in our bathroom, and the concept lingered in my mind until it transformed into this lovely design. It’s a delight to knit and will keep you cozy through the colder months. Entirely crafted from 4-ply sock yarn, this cowl requires approximately 35 grams of each color, making it a fantastic stash-busting project. Feel free to experiment with various color combinations; classic options like black and white, or rich tones like dark red and cream, or even crisp white and deep forest green will look stunning. For a budget-friendly choice, acrylic yarn of similar weight can also be used.
Enjoy creating this beautiful basket weave cowl, and happy knitting! Whether you're making it for yourself or as a heartfelt gift, this cozy accessory is sure to please.
