Cables of Gratitude
Discover the perfect gift for those serving our country with this stylish reversible unisex scarf, designed specifically for Operation Gratitude. This special initiative sends care packages to our troops, and your handmade scarf can be a significant part of that heartfelt gesture. Why not take a moment to create one for a service member who deserves our appreciation and support?
Gauge Note: Please keep in mind that the gauge was measured with the piece at rest; the cable design can pull in quite a bit, resulting in a very stretchy scarf that feels cozy and comfortable. Make sure to check your gauge as this will ensure the best fit and finish for your project!
Materials Needed:
- For the 4” x 50” scarf: 1 skein of Berroco Comfort Solids (210 yds/192 m, 100 g) in colorway 9747 Cadet. Keep in mind that you will need an additional skein if you're aiming to create a wider or longer scarf, as our sample scarf used the entire skein.
- For the 5.75” x 26” cowl: 2 skeins of Knit Picks Swish DK (123 yds/112 m, 50 g) in colorway 24632 Serrano.
- US 9/5.5 mm knitting needles or size needed to obtain the correct gauge.
- Darning needle for finishing.
- For the cowl only: a 9.0 mm/(M/N) size crochet hook for the provisional cast on, along with 1 yard of smooth cotton waste yarn.
The cowl features a provisional cast on, allowing for a seamless grafting of the ends once the knitting is completed, resulting in a polished, professional finish. This not only enhances the aesthetic appeal but also ensures that your work will hold up over time, making it a cherished gift.
