Farid shawl
Design: This stunning large triangle shawl features two distinctive arrow lace patterns that beautifully combine knitting techniques such as knit, purl, yarnovers, k2tog, and ssk, creating an eye-catching accessory perfect for any occasion.
Cast On Method: The shawl starts with a garter tab cast on technique, providing a smooth and elegant beginning to your project, which is essential for achieving a professional finish.
Shape: This particular pattern is designed to create a large triangle shawl, reminiscent of cozy blankets. When fully unfolded, it measures a generous 72 x 32 inches when lightly blocked and 82 x 32 inches when wet blocked, offering ample coverage and warmth.
Yarn Requirements: To bring this beautiful shawl to life, you will need 3 skeins (plus a small dribble) of Paton's Classic Wool in russet. This lovely yarn not only provides warmth but also excellent stitch definition, accentuating the intricate lace work.
Needles: For this project, you will need US size 10 needles, which optimize the lace pattern's visibility and the overall drape of the shawl.
Gauge: Achieve the perfect fit with a gauge of 13 stitches x 12 rows = 4 inches in lace pattern when steam blocked, or 11 stitches x 12 rows = 4 inches in lace pattern when wet blocked.
Final Measurements: The final dimensions of your stunning shawl will be 72 x 32 inches when lightly blocked, expanding to 82 x 32 inches with wet blocking. This versatility allows you to customize the size to your preference.
Important Note: I personally steam blocked my shawl, which gave it just the right amount of stretch and shape. However, wet blocking will significantly enlarge the shawl even more. If you're aiming for a truly large piece, wet blocking is the way to go! I plan to revisit my shawl for wet blocking and will update the dimensions accordingly. Stay tuned for more details!
Errata: Please note there is one extra yarn over in Chart A, specifically on the first line of the first boxed repeat. Ensure you remove it or mark it out as you work.
Ssk Method Description: The description for the ssk technique is provided within the pattern to guide you through this essential decrease method, ensuring your lacework remains flawless.
This triangle lace shawl is the perfect project for knitters of various skill levels, allowing you to refine your lace knitting techniques while creating a breathtaking piece that can be worn or gifted. Dive into this pattern and enjoy the meditative process of crafting your new favorite shawl!
