Discover the perfect combination of practicality and style with our versatile reusable market bag, originally published as "Rutabaga" in Knitscene, Spring '07. Crafted from sturdy hemp, this eco-friendly bag features a delightful smocked stitch pattern that not only elevates your shopping experience but also minimizes your environmental footprint.
Yarn Requirements: To create your own beautiful market bag, you will need approx 400 yards of worsted-weight yarn. For the sample, we used Hemp for Knitting’s allhemp6 in the warm and inviting Dijon colorway, perfect for any season.
Gauge: Achieve approximately 18 stitches and 20 rows to make a 4” square in the eye-catching mesh pattern, using size 10.5 (6.5mm) needles. While gauge is provided for reference, it is not critical for this project, giving you the freedom to adjust your knitting tension as desired.
Difficulty Level: This pattern is categorized as suitable for advanced beginners, making it an excellent choice for those looking to expand their knitting skills while creating a functional accessory.
Size: The finished bag measures approximately 13" x 13", not including the comfortable strap, making it a convenient size for all your market trips and everyday needs.
